As a team, we were all over this race! With only Lee, Rich and Me, we were still able to have one of us in every attack and ready to counter anything coming up. We were always perfectly positioned in the bunch, anyone at the front was off the front. All this communication and race analysis has had such a positive impact on our racing and the results we’ve been getting are definitely proof of the pudding.
Half way through the race, Lee went in a break of 4 that got about 10-15 seconds, I was ready for anything that wanted to join to it. At the base of the hill another 3 went that I joined, 2 dropped back and I made the bridge with another to make it 6, I thought this was going to be the one that stayed away and with Lee and Myself would have given us a great advantage. but that one wasn’t to be.
The break that did stay away was a lap later in the same place, 2 guys up the road, Several of us attacked on the hill to Horsmonden and I joined them with one other guy, we worked a great ‘through and off’ and this lap had a Prime for 1st over the line which I got pretty easily. The last lap we got our lead up to 1 min and after the hills it started to get a bit attacky. I picked the guy I wanted to lead me out and I think I chose well, I was sitting second wheel and he decided to go from the corner that leads into the finish, with about 150 meters to go I went and won by 0.02 of a second! (New level of Sprint found)
Following not far behind was Rich and Lee, Rich managed to give Lee some room and Lee got a 3rd in the bunch sprint which put him 7th and Rich came in with still a fantastic 12th overall. AWESOME!!
The biggest positive for me was executing everything we’ve learned this year. After every race that goes well, we all feel great. 1st place is just money in the beer fund 🙂
£40 in winnings by the way!! (£20 of beer already consumed)
